2.3 kg of gold worth nearly Rs 1.4 crore seized by DRI from Jaipur airport; one held

A team of DRI on Thursday seized 2,300 grams of gold in paste form worth nearly Rs 1.4 crore from a passenger who deboarded a flight from Sharjah to Jaipur international airport on Thursday.

The passenger was intercepted and later arrested by the DRI team and found gold in paste form concealed in the undergarments and trousers of the passengers.

TOI on Friday spoke to the officers to know the developments.

"Acting on an intelligence input that a passenger from Sharjah was coming to Jaipur with smuggled gold, our team was on alert. The passenger has properly been checked. We found a paste which was nearly 2700 grams. Finally we found 2300 grams of gold out of the paste which worth nearly Rs 1.4 crore," said an officer of DRI on the condition of anonymity.
