Bomb threat at Varanasi airport, accused arrested from UP's Bhadohi

Panic ensued at Varanasi's Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport on Friday after an airport official received a bomb threat call. The caller, named Ashok, threatened to "blow up" the airport and change its map by evening.

Following the threat, CISF personnel initiated intensive checking of every nook and corner at the airport. A written complaint was also made by the Airport Authority to a local police station.

The call was traced back to Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh and the accused was arrested. According to police, the accused is mentally impaired.

The 25-year-old accused was identified as Ashok Prajapati. He was arrested under section 503 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to Ashok's family, he has been receiving treatment from a psychiatrist in Varanasi since April, said Phulpur police station incharge Deepak Kumar Ranawat.
