Indian airlines carried 124.23 lakh passengers in August, a jump of 22.8 percent compared to the previous month, data by the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) showed on Thursday, September 14.
In the first eight months of 2023, the airlines carried 1006.16 lakh passengers as against 770.70 lakh during the corresponding period of previous year, an increase of more than 30 percent.
In August, IndiGo continued to have the largest market share at 63.3 percent, followed by Air India and Vistara with 9.8 percent share each. SpiceJet overtook Akasa, and registered a market share of 4.4 percent. Akasa's market share in August stood at 4.2 percent, Air Asia's at 7.1 percent.
It must be noted Tata Group's combined market share is 26.7 percent. Air India was purchased in January 2022 by the Tata conglomerate, which was already running Vistara and AirAsia India at the time.
During the month, a total of 288 passenger related complaints were received by scheduled domestic airlines. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of August 2023 has been around 0.23.
Alliance Air witnessed the maximum complaints followed by SpiceJet, Fly Big, Star Air, Akasa Air, Air India, Air Asia, Vistara and IndiGo.
