G20 summit keeps Delhi airspace busy, airlines give option to reschedule

With travel restrictions in place in the New Delhi police district, and delegates from several countries expected to land in the national capital starting September 8, airlines are now giving passengers the option to reschedule their flights to avoid travelling to Delhi on these dates.

According to sources at the Delhi airport, around 160 flights, both from and to Delhi, have been cancelled by airlines for the time period.

On Tuesday, Air India said it would waive rescheduling charges if passengers want to change their travel dates.

“There will be traffic restrictions in Delhi between September 7 and 11, 2023. As a goodwill measure, passengers holding confirmed tickets to fly to or from Delhi on these dates are being offered a one-time waiver of applicable charges, if they wish to change their date of travel or their flight. Only the fare difference for the rescheduled flight, if any, would be applicable,” the airline tweeted.

Vistara, too, said it would waive rescheduling charges. In an update posted on X, Vistara has requested its customers to visit the airline’s website to check their flight status. “… in view of the G20 Summit that is expected to impact approach routes to the IGI Airport, we have made adjustments to our flight operations to and from Delhi. We have cancelled selected flights while some others have been rescheduled.”

Spicejet, meanwhile, has alerted passengers to road closures and diversions and longer and usual travel times.

Taking to X, IndiGo said the airline is offering its customers the option of rescheduling or cancelling their flights with refunds.

Sources at the Delhi airport said that with three new ceremonial lounges being prepared to welcome delegates and officials accompanying world leaders, disruption for the public will be minimal.
