Doon-Ludhiana flight makes its maiden run from Hindon

Ghaziabad: The first commercial flight, a 19-seater aircraft operated by Flybig, which has launched a service connecting Dehradun and Ludhiana via NCR, landed at the Hindon air base’s civil terminal after nearly eight months on Wednesday.

The aircraft landed around 9am on the way to Ludhiana and made another stop in the afternoon on the way back to Dehradun picking up three passengers —AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab Sanjeev Arora and his two associates.

Ghaziabad MP and Union minister of state for road transport, highways and civil aviation Gen VK Singh (retd) said Flybig will start operations in three more cities — Haldwara, Bhatinda and Sri Ganganagar — from the terminal.

Singh, who flagged off the flight from Hindon to Ludhiana, said Star Air, which was running a flight service to Kalburgi and Hubli till January, will also resume the service soon. Efforts are on to woo more airlines to operate on Lucknow and Prayagraj routes, he said.

“This (flight service on the Dehradun-Ludhiana route) heralds a new beginning for Hindon civil terminal as we have finally been able to convince private airline operators that under the UDAN scheme, operations from and via Hindon civil terminal is a profitable proposition, as in UP the VAT is just 1%,” the minister said.
