Flyer caught with gold worth ₹72 lakh

Nagpur: A woman passenger, holding an Indian passport, was intercepted at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar international airport in Nagpur in the early hours of Friday by the air customs unit (ACU) and air intelligence unit (AIU) with 1.2 kg of 24 carat gold worth more than ₹72 lakh.

The woman, ferrying the gold in paste form in her belt, had flown down from Sharjah by Air Arabia. She is a native of Mumbai. The gold was being ferried in a special cavity stitched with the belt.

The ACU and AIU sleuths had stopped the woman upon suspicion. The gold was found concealed in the belt after a search.

The action was supervised by commissioner of customs Sanjay Kumar and the additional commissioners Dhairyashil Kanse and Peeyoush Bhati
