Chennai: The Chennai (North) District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has ordered Air France to pay 43,900 to a Chennai resident for misplacing candies he bought for his family from the US.
In his complaint to the commission, M V L Narayana Rao of Valasaravakkam said he had booked his return ticket by an Air France flight to Chennai from Chicago in June 2008 with a help of a private travel agency. Due to bad weather, the flight got delayed and Rao missed his connecting flight from Paris.
At the airport in the French capital, Rao claimed he was neither provided food nor a transit visa into the city so that he could book a hotel till the next flight to Chennai was ready for departure. He had to spend 5,000 for food at the airport where he was forced to stay for nearly 26 hours in the lounge.
Finally, he boarded a flight to Bengaluru from where he flew to Chennai by a domestic flight. At Bengaluru airport he found that one of his two bags was missing and was delivered to him a week later.
He found it was tampered with and two SIM cards and five candy boxes bought for his family were missing, Rao said in his complaint.
Air France in response said delays due to bad weather were beyond its control and it had taken efforts to book business class ticket for Rao to Paris.
Regarding the missing items, it said the bag was traced within one week and delivered to him without any damage or locks being broken.
