New ATC Tower at Ahmedabad Airport to Be India’s Second-Tallest: Report

Ahmedabad: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city is set to get a new air traffic control (ATC) tower over 93 metres tall, which would make it the second-tallest ATC tower in India after Delhi airport’s 103-metre structure, according to a news report.

The TOI report stated that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the civil aviation ministry have approved the land allocation and design plans for the proposed tower. It is learnt that a plot behind the existing AAI office has been identified for the project. At present, Mumbai airport’s 84-metre ATC tower is the country’s second tallest.

The new ATC tower forms part of the SVPI Airport’s 2030 Development Plan, which also includes the construction of a new integrated terminal and the expansion of Terminal 1 to cater to increasing passenger traffic.
