JetLite seeks advertising revenues

Mumbai: JetLite, the low-cost airline of full-services carrier Jet Airways, is looking at enhancing its ancillary revenues by opening itself up in a big way to advertising. The airline plans to offer the fuselage, the exterior of the aircraft body, and in-flight space for advertising.
Fuselage advertising was previously seen in India during the heydays of Air Deccan, when Sun Microsystems had advertised on the exteriors of the aircraft. The airline ended up charging a premium for the ads. JetLite is banking on the same strategy. A source close to the development said that the airline is looking to garner revenues worth Rs 50-60 lakh a month from the move. JetLite has 24 aircrafts.
But when contacted, Sudheer Raghavan, chief commercial officer, Jet Airways, said, “There are no plans for fuselage advertising, but we are definitely working towards ancillary revenue sources for JetLite.” Currently, no airline offers fuselage advertising.
Advertising experts say it gets limited eyeballs. But niche advertisers could find it an attractive proposition.
On the revenue potential, D’Monte said that JetLite’s expected numbers look decent when both fuselage and in-flight space are considered.
