New Delhi: Six Sri Lankan nationals were today held for allegedly carrying fake Indian currency notes worth Rs 28,000 at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here.
The six Lankans, who were scheduled to travel to Mumbai on a domestic airline, were intercepted and detained by the security officials of the CISF at around 11 am after they acted on a tip-off.
Two Sri Lankans, according to CISF, were intercepted initially at a ticketing counter right outside the terminal 1D of IGI airport on suspicion and two fake currency notes of Rs 1,000 were recovered from them.
"These two notes were found to be fake. Later, 26 similar fake notes of the same denomination were recovered by personnel of our airport security group," Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) spokesperson Hemendra Singh said.
