SpiceJet flight averts major accident

Over 160 people on board a SpiceJet plane had a narrow escape on a journey to Agartala when a bird hit the aircraft, damaging one of its engines last night, Airport Authority of India officials said here. According to report, a bigger aircraft of SpiceJet hit a bird as at took off from Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Airport in Kolkata for Agartala last evening. Except panic among the passengers and damage to engine there was no report of any causality. The plane had made an emergency landing and de-boarded the passengers. About an equal number of passengers were stranded in Agartala airport till 2300 hrs who were supposed to make outbound journey to Kolkata in the same flight. However, allegedly the airlines officials did not provide them refreshment for the inordinate delay in journey at both the airports.
