AI admin staffers' IDs also hacked

New Delhi: The crooks who targeted Air India had not just hacked into the frequent flyers' club but were in control of as many as 24 user IDs of Air India's programme administration group that was handling the club's operation. All these IDs have been deactivated. Police say the security breach is "major and severe" and don't deny the possible involvement of elements in Pakistan. But they aren't commenting on the case officially as the probe is on.
"The hackers had managed to sneak into several accounts of Air India employees and were verifying flyers. This was an extremely organised crime and we are analysing all angles step by step," a senior police officer said.
Sources in the cyber cell said Air India first learnt about the fraud when a flier uploaded his credentials. "On June 8, an Air India employee, who was verifying the documents, noticed that the account was already verified by another 'employee' with ID KishoreK. But the identity document submitted was a driving licence, which is not accepted by the airline as ID/address proof. The airline only accepts passport, PAN card, voter ID or Aadhaar card from fliers," a top officer said.
