Victims unite to fight fraudulent tour operators on WhatsApp

Bengaluru: Sixty persons, who were shortchanged by two men promising them trips to west and southeast Asian destinations at dirt-cheap prices, have taken to social media. The duo allegedly made away with an estimated Rs 1 crore.
The victims living in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Dehradun and Pune, among other places, have formed a WhatsApp group. The full extent of the racket is still not clear as the number of victims joining the group is increasing by the day.
Preliminary investigations by Bengaluru and Delhi police revealed that the racketeers operated between December 2015 and April 2016. The scandal came to light when some of them verified their ticket status with airlines and hotels and found them to be fake.
Mohan S, a city-based businessman, said he approached Aditya Gupta, who claimed to be the proprietor of Delhi-based Travels Deal Bazar, also known as Cheap Deal Bazaar, in March after seeing an online advertisement promising a trip to Dubai at cheaper prices.
