Chennai: Unaccounted Indian currency worth Rs 39.97 lakh has been seized from a passenger bound for Sri Lanka at Chennai airport, customs officials said today.
Acting on a tip-off, customs officials intercepted the passenger bound for Colombo late last night and seized the currency from his baggage, they said.
The passenger, hailing from Ramanathapuram, was detained for questioning.
