4,000kg of smuggled goods seized at Guwahati airport

Guwahati:  In one of the biggest-ever seizures of smuggled foreign goods in the state, customs officials seized 116 bags of clothes and electronics at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport on Sunday evening.
The consignments, worth several crores, were being taken to New Delhi and Mumbai from Mizoram's capital Aizawl.
JND Mahanta, superintendent of customs (LGBI Airport unit) told TOI, "The products were made in China, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. They included top-quality clothes, sports shoes, innerwear, jeans and around 60 remote-controlled CCTV cameras." The combined weight of the bags, packed in three separate consignments, was around 4,000 kg.
