Airport in a tizzy over bomb scare

A bomb scare prompted security personnel to conduct a search on Indigo flight 6E 5193 from New Delhi to Guwahati immediately after the aircraft landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport here around 7.30 this evening.

Police sources said an unidentified person "called" LGBI airport authorities to "inform" them about the presence of a bomb in the aircraft but could not confirm the exact time the call came.

Within minutes, additional security measures were activated at the airport in accordance with the standard operating procedures.

Security personnel, led by Central Industrial Security Force and Assam police, detained the passengers at the airport for about three hours and conducted a thorough search of the aircraft and their luggage. There were 188 passengers on the aircraft.
