Free parking ensures more vehicles at airport

Ranchi: Parking at the Birsa Munda Airport has increased ever since free parking was announced on the airport premises on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the airport witnessed total chaos during the arrival of Union minister Nitin Gadkari.
A traffic constable posted at the airport said, "Excluding the BJP workers, the general crowd has increased today." The charge of two-wheeler parking is Rs 45 whereas for car it is Rs 55. Autos, SUV or mini bus is charged at Rs 60 and bus or truck is charged at Rs 70.
On the other hand, two-wheeler riders and vehicle owners are avoiding railway stations, bus terminals and malls due to lack of small denomination of currency notes like Rs 100 or Rs 50. There are nearly 25 paid parking zones in the city run by Ranchi municipal corporation which has outsourced the job to contractors. One such contractor T Manzar said, "The situation is bad for the last one week as almost all vehicles are being parked outside the paid zones. Due to cash crunch we are also not ticking off the vehicle owners. Arbitrary parking of vehicles is more prominent in 13 parking zones from Shaheed Chowk to Overbridge.''
