Tareekh pe tareekh for Navi Mumbai airport project

The much delayed Navi Mumbai airport project is going to be further delayed. The latest due date, according to a committee headed by Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, is May 2020. The five-month extension – the project was supposed to be completed by December 2019 – was announced last week, after bidders complained about the impractical deadline.

“However, we have made it clear that at least one runway and a terminal building should be ready by December 2019. Fullfledged operations can start from May 2020,” said CIDCO’s managing director Bhushan Gagrani.

The proposal for the airport project in Navi Mumbai was first submitted by the City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), the nodal agency for the project, in 2007, and it was initially expected to become operational by 2011. However, the project was delayed by environmental clearances and issues related to land acquisition.
