Silchar MP Sushmita Dev on Wednesday urged civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju to revive and upgrade the Silchar airport located along the India-Bangladesh border.
The MP met the Union minister in New Delhi and submitted a letter to him in which she said the Silchar airport, situated at Kumbhirgram, 25 km from here, was close to Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram, as well as Bangladesh. Connectivity was a serious problem in the land-locked area and residents of the region had to travel through Meghalaya to reach Guwahati, she added.
