Take immediate steps required for ensuring smooth travel to & fro Srinagar airport: HC

Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed Airport Authority of India (AAI) and others to take immediate steps for providing all necessary facilities to passengers travelling to and fro Srinagar International Airport by air.
Listing the case on December 26, the court directed all respondents, including AAI, to file the compliance report before the date of hearing.

A division bench of the HC comprising Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar and Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey taking suo-moto cognizance of difficulties being faced by passengers at Srinagar International Airport also directed them to take whatever steps are required for ensuring smooth travel from the airport forthwith.

The bench asked Union of India through Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi, AAI through its Chairman and Air Commodore, Indian Airports, posted at Air Force Station, Srinagar, to file compliance report before December 26.

The petition was initiated by Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey and subsequently, Chief Justice ordered its registration as Suo Moto Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and listed before the division bench.

In this PIL, the Justice Magrey has noticed that the AAI has, prima facie, failed to take notice of hardships and difficulties being regularly faced by the people, who travel to and fro Srinagar airport by air.

The PIL said that the AAI has failed to take appropriate remedial measures by upgrading the lighting system and installing the required gadgets at Srinagar airport and, consequently has failed to discharge its public duties.
