Gold valued Rs 41 lakh seized at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai: On Wednesday night, on the basis of intelligence, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers of Mumbai Customs intercepted three passengers namely Afzal Shabbir Shroff, Salim Anwar Shaikh and Wagle., all Mumbai resident on their arrival from Bhuvneshwar to Mumbai by Air India flight.
The personal search of the first passenger resulted in the recovery of four gold bars of ten tolas each and two cut pieces of gold bars totally weighing 580 gms and valued at Rs 15,39,264. A case has been booked.
The said flight had earlier arrived from Muscat to Delhi and further travelled to Mumbai and then to Bhuvaneshvar.
In the second case, based on profiling, AIU officers on Thursday early morning, intercepted one passenger Mohammed Abdul Shukoor Poovatham Poyil holding Indian passport on his arrival from Kuwait by Jet Airways Flight.
During the search of his baggage, 02 gold pieces weighing 498 gms and 497 gms each totally weighing 995 gms specially moulded as 'pole piece' and valued at Rs 26,40,650 were recovered.
The passenger had coated the said two gold pieces with silver colour and cleverly fitted the same as one of the parts of the speaker.
