Industrialists offer suggestions to improve Chennai airport

Chennai: “The Chennai airport is in a bad shape; what can we do? What is the State government doing to show that its business as usual? We need more interactions with the State government” — these were some of the questions industrialists from across Tamil Nadu put to K. Pandiarajan, Minister for School Education, Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu at the CII Southern Regional Council Meeting in Chennai.

B. Santhanam, President and Managing Director, Flat Glass – South Asia, Malaysia and Egypt, Saint-Gobain India Pvt Ltd, said, “We need an advocate in the government and in the Ministry in Chennai.”

Coimbatore-based Adwaith Lakshmi Industries Managing Director Ravi Sam told the Minister that Coimbatore had the highest passenger movement after Chennai. “We need good terminals and connectivity.” Mr. Pandiarajan, replied, “Coimbatore will be a priority for this government.”

M. Ponnuswami, Chairman, CII, Chennai Zone, suggested that the Chief Minister interact with industrialists once in a quarter.

CII Southern Region Chairman Ramesh Datla asked what the government was doing to ensure that it was business as usual.
