Hyderabad: Hyderabad-based regional air carrier Trujet, part of Turbo Megha Airways, has received the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the aviation regulator Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) which will enable it to expand flight services to all metros in the country. Incidentally, Trujet is the first airline in the country to be awarded scheduled commuter operator (SCO) permit and can now connect Nanded-Bombay route under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme. Turbo Megha Airways, which is the holding company of regional carrier TruJet, has been granted the AOC under the scheduled commuter operator (SCO) category, a senior official from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said. “We will now connect the under-served cities with the big metros and contribute towards the overall economic growth. We are very hopeful that the response will exceed our expectations,” Vankayalapati Umesh, MD, Turbo Megha Airways said in a statement.
Under the category, air operators are allowed to operate with aircraft having a maximum All Up Weight (AUW) not exceeding 40 tonnes. Turbo Megha is one of the five air operators which won bids to operate on 128 routes connecting 70 airports, of which 31 are under-served under the regional connectivity scheme – UDAN – where fares are capped at Rs 2,500 for one hour flights. The airline currently operates a set of ATR-72 aircraft and has acquired the fourth aircraft of the same type. The latest aircraft will operate the new sectors.
