Special purpose vehicle to expedite work on Jewar airport

Lucknow: A special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be constituted for the proposed Greenfield Jewar Airport in Greater Noida to ensure better coordination between different government agencies to expedite the project. The decision was taken at a meeting between chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi and Union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju here on Friday.
Yogi also directed the officials to expedite appointment of a consultant for preparing the detailed project report (DPR). The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has already notified 3,000 hectares of land for a world-class international airport. He also directed the officials to submit a proposal for acquisition of 350 acres of land for the extension of the airport at Varanasi — the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Then UP CM pushed for extension and upgradation of the airport at Gorakhpur, which happens to be his home town, so that the facility could accommodate flights from Kolkata, Kathmandu, Singapore and Bangkok and appreciated the efforts of the department which are involved in setting up of Instrument Landing System which helps in management of flight traffic during poor visible in case of fog during winters. He also directed the officials to seek defence ministry clearance for converting the Lalitpur airstrip into a civil terminal and pushed for chopper facility to connect Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi and other similar locations which have a growing footfall of religious tourism.
