Kalaburagi airport to have trial runs in December

The Kalaburagi district administration is hoping that the work on the airport will be completed by March next year. If all goes as per plans, the trial runs for aircrafts are expected to be held by the end of December. A meeting in this regard is likely to be held next week that will be presided over by the Deputy Commissioner, representatives from the Airport Authority of India, Karnataka State Infrastructure Development Department and PWD.

According to sources, the airport is being established on 742.16 acres of land and, as part of the first phase, the 3,257 metres runway has been completed. As part of the second phase, the air traffic control centre as well as the works related to the terminal building are under progress.

The tender process is on for the third phase works related to runway lighting, important buildings, navigation system and so on. The work related to the buffer zone is in progress and is expected to be complete in a month’s time. The project is being undertaken by the PWD and the Hyderabad-Karnataka Regional Development Board (HKRDB).
