Defective display, lack of basic facilities rankle travellers at VSI airport

Port Blair: Defective Flight Information Display System at the Veer Savarkar International (VSI) Airport here has left air travellers annoyed and exhausted for the past several days. According to reports, the display board indicating arrival, departure and delayed arrivals of various flights at the arrival and departure terminal of the airport has gone defunct recently and without any alternate arrangements, relatives of passengers of the flight are forced to wait endlessly at the airport to receive their near and dear ones. To add to the woes of passengers is lack of seating arrangements and air-conditioning facility at the departure terminal besides poor upkeep of toilet facilities in the airport.
“Despite being declared an international airport operating around 20 flights in a day, the Veer Savarkar Airport at Port Blair lacks basic facilities. Several days have passed but the authorities have failed to rectify the defective display board at the arrival and departure terminal of the airport as a result of which passengers can been seen wandering from one counter to another seeking necessary information about incoming and outgoing flights. Having no clue about the arrival timing of flights, passengers are left high and dry at the airport for hours waiting to board. Even tour operators and private auto and taxi drivers are facing hardships as they have to wait endlessly at the arrival terminal to pick up their guests.
