Starting Nov 18, Air India to fly to Singapore from city

Coimbatore: Air India Express CEO K Shyam Sundar on Wednesday announced the plans to operate a flight to Singapore and Delhi from the city, thrice a week. The first flight to Singapore will take off from Coimbatore airport at 11.15pm on November 18.
Air India had in the past few months introduced operations to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai from the city. The Kongu Global Forum, representing the western districts of the state, however, had on several times approached the union aviation minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, demanding Air India flights to Dubai.
"There are no slots available in Dubai. Singapore is an equally good market. Our operation from Madurai has been successful and we hope to repeat the success here as well," Shyam Sundar said.
