Spicejet penalized Rs25k for causing mental agony to passenger

Srinagar: District Consumer Protection Forum, Srinagar has directed Spicejet Airlines to pay Rs 25,000 compensation to a passenger for causing him mental pain, agony and harassment.
Mohammad Yousuf Shamshad of Kralwari, Chadoora Budgam had filed a complaint before the Forum in 2013, alleging that the flight in which he and her spouse was flying from Delhi to Srinagar was delayed deliberately by the Airlines.
Shamshad in order to travel from Delhi to Srinagar on 13 October 2013 had purchased an air ticket from the opposite parties Spicejet after paying a sum of Rs 23679.
The departure time for the flight scheduled for Srinagar was shown as 11:45am. He had alleged that on the scheduled date of journey, the he reached Delhi Airport at 11am, 45 minutes prior to departure time and it took some time to reach to the counter which was overcrowded due to long queue of passengers and accordingly they reached the counter at 11:20am.
However, he was denied boarding pass and told that they were ten minutes late. He had alleged that they were instead forced to purchase new ticket after paying additional sum of Rs 17,998.
