Jet Airways: Another crew member's name appears in Rs 3 cr smuggling case

The name of another Jet Airways crew member has surfaced in connection to the recovery of over three crore rupees from a female flight attendant of the airlines.

Appearing in a Delhi court on Thursday, Deveshi Kulshreshtha, the female flight attendant, who was arrested with currency worth Rs 3,09,72,900 on board, informed the court that one Maninder Singh, who was also a crew member and working with Jet Airways, was also involved in the crime.

She alleged that during interrogation by the sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, she had named Singh but no action was taken against him by the officials.

Terming this as a "serious" submission, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sehrawat, asked the Investigating Officer (IO) about the contentions made by the accused.

In response to the query by the court, the IO stated that even though Maninder Singh was present on the flight, no recovery was made from him.

"...said submissions made by accused Deveshi are quite serious in nature and after hearing the submission, a query in this regard was made from the IO present. The IO stated that although Maninder Singh was very much present but there was no recovery from him, however, he submits that he shall certainly look into the matter and report to the court accordingly," the judge said as he sent Deveshi and Amit Malhotra, the alleged Hawala dealer, to 14 days of judicial custody.
