Tezpur: During his maiden visit here, Rajya Sabha member Dr Subramanian Swamy today laid stress on air connectivity to Tezpur and urged the Government of India to fulfil the long-standing demand of the people of Tezpur which has immense tourism potential. In a letter addressed to Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Minister of Civil Aviation, which was forwarded to the media here, the parliamentarian demanded a regular airline service from Delhi to Tezpur. Tezpur, which has a substantial population, is close to Arunachal Pradesh. “It is, however, surprising that not a single airline connecting Delhi to Tezpur is operating, which can operate not only in Assam but also in Arunachal Pradesh and other States of the North-East,” he said.
The veteran Rajya Sabha member further pointed out in the letter that while it is the Government’s policy to subsidize and encourage airlines to fly to the North-East, the Delhi-Tezpur-Delhi route is also commercially viable.
