AAI zone map: steps sought to issue NOCs

Shashi Tharoor, MP, has urged Union Minister for Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu and Minister of State Jayant Sinha to intervene to solve the crisis arising out of the implementation of the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) Colour Coded Zoning Map (CCZM) in 20 civic works in the vicinity of the international airport here.

In a letter to the Ministers, the MP pointed out that a total of 2,103 Prime Minister’s Awaz Yojana (PMAY) beneficiaries were awaiting clearance from the AAI for constructing single- and double-storeyed buildings on land that falls in the red colour zone of CCZM.

Mr. Tharoor demanded that residential buildings up to six metres in height should be exempted from the NOC requirement. He also asked the Union Ministers to intervene and ensure that the AAI specified a permissible height for structures in red colour zone so that people could plan their construction accordingly.

The MP suggested that occupancy permits be issued to those individuals who had secured construction permits before the notification was issued. To overcome problems faced in preparing the land coordinates and lack of authorised surveyors, Mr. Tharoor said the ministry should authorise and equip those working under local self governments so that the citizens got the facility at a reasonable cost.
