Afghan man detained at Kochi airport for possessing foreign currency worth Rs 11 crore

Thiruvananathapuram: Customs officials at Kochi airport detained one 33-year-old Afghan national Wednesday morning after Rs 11 crore in foreign currency were recovered from his baggage.

The man, identified as Yusuf Mohammed Siddiqui, was travelling from New Delhi to Dubai via Kochi in an Air India flight on June 12. Due to a technical snag, the flight was rescheduled and passengers were shifted to a Kochi hotel.

During the X-ray screening of his baggage at Kochi airport, Rs 11 crore worth of US dollars and Saudi Riyal combined were intercepted which lead to his arrest.
