Dumna Airport Authority to replace outdated DVOR for uninterrupted flight operation

Dumna Airport Authority will replace the outdated Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range (DVOR) for uninterrupted flight operation. Even after materialising several development works, flights operation is relying on outdated DVOR system violating the international airport standards.Surprisingly, DVOR system was installed at Dumna Airport during the year 2000 which is still operational even after its maximum lifetime of 12-years. Now, with the failure of DVOR and cancelling flights for more than 36-years, airport authority has been aroused and working on war footings to replace the existing DVOR with advanced system.
Dumna Airport, Director, Samtanu Saha, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, confirmed that the DVOR was installed at the airport during the year 2000. The system was to be replaced after 12-years of its installation as per international standards. The system was restored with a hectic workout within 36 – 38 hours. Authorities have started efforts for replacing the outdated DVOR system with its advanced version for avoiding further repetition of its failure. The new DVOR system will be installed in next one month for fluent operation of flights at Dumna Airport. He informed that the DVOR system works for visibility of airport strip to air traffic control from 5,000 metres but the system had visibility of around 2,000 metres. Air Traffic Control (ATC) taken a serious note on low visibility of airstrip at Dumna Airport and immediately abandoned the flights operation. A team of technical experts from Nagpur immediately called in Jabalpur and started restoration of DVOR system and made it operational.
