Bangalore airport project to be expanded to accommodate 11.4 million passengers

Bangalore: Brushing aside the shadow of delay, decks have been cleared for the expansion of the under-construction Bangalore international airport with the BIAL board ratifying the proposal at a meeting on Friday.
The additional cost will be about Rs 400 crore, bringing the total airport cost to Rs 1,800 crore. The additional amount will be raised as debt. After a four-hour meeting, the board sorted about 90 per cent of the issues proposed by Union civil aviation minister Praful Patel.
Without compromising on the airport start date of April 2, 2008, the project will be expanded to accommodate 11.4 million passengers against the original target of 4.5 million.
