Air Deccan arm gets nod to fly Kochi from Colombo

New Delhi: Government has agreed to grant Capt. GR Gopinath's Lankan airline venture - Deccan Lanka - the nod to operate international flights into India under the bilateral air services agreement between the two countries.
With this in-principle approval in place, Deccan Lanka is set to start its maiden flight between Colombo and Kochi within the next 60-90 days, airline sources said. Deccan Lanka was earlier this week granted the final clearance by the Sri Lankan government to start international flights to India. Under this, the airline has been given the nod to start flights from Colombo to Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Trichy and Coimbatore in the first phase.
In the next phase, the airline will be able to connect cities like Delhi and Mumbai to Colombo, besides operating flights from Sri Lanka to the Middle East and southeast Asian nations.
