Asean aviation pact on the radar

New Delhi: The government is gearing up for a full-fledged ‘open skies’ agreement with Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has initiated steps for early opening up of the sector and consultations with various departments like the civil aviation ministry, Planning Commission (PC) and the finance ministry are on now.
Once implemented, the revised pact will allow Air-India, Indian and Jet Airways to launch more flights to popular destinations like Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. On the other hand, Singapore Airlines, Malaysian and Thai Airways would get more access to Indian destinations.
