ATF becomes cheaper for foreign airlines

New Delhi:Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) that is used for outbound international flights will now be treated at par with exports, which means it will be available for international airliners at concessional rates.
Airline companies do not want to commit to anything yet but aviation analysts say consumers can expect cheaper fares. "Considering fuel bill for foreign airlines will go down by 8-10 per cent, the sector will become much more competitive.
In the last two years there has been immense capacity building. Fares have crashed to uneconomical levels. We may expect rate cuts even though that has not happened yet," said Kapil Kaul, CEO, CAPA (India). If cheaper fuel helps, India can take away a part of the refueling business from Asian hubs like Dubai and Singapore.
