Mopa committee gets extension

Panaji: The central government has granted six months extension to the Rane committee, which has been constituted to look into the proposed Mopa international airport.
Senior government officials are tight-lipped on the proposed Mopa project. The Chief Minister, Mr Pratapsing Rane, who heads the panel, constituted by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, said that he had sufficient time to study various aspects of the proposed airport and discuss the matter threadbare in committee meetings to prepare a report.
The Rane committee had sought extension as earlier deadline expired on April 30. The Prime Minister has granted the time limit till October 26 to prepare the report.
Though the Rane committee has requested to appoint two civil aviation experts on the committee, the central government had not mentioned anything on this.
