Push for private players in airport plan

Kolkata:Union civil aviation minister, Mr Praful Patel, today hinted that the pressure tactics of the Left Front parties to keep private players away from airport modernisation projects would not deter the Centre from involving private participation in modernising Kolkata and Chennai Airports.
Without mentioning the impasse between his ministry and the state government over the modernisation of NSC Bose Airport, the civil aviation minister said creating a world class airport is a challenge. “So, we want your cooperation in taking it on,” Mr Patel said while inaugurating the train services between NSC Bose Airport and the Dum Dum Cantonment section of Circular Railway today.
The minister also said the Centre is planning to set up 35 small airports in non-metropolitan areas as a part of its expansion plan and all these airports would be constructed by the Airports Authority of India.
