Left union grabs building inside Kolkata airport

Kolkata: The Left’s biggest argument against not allowing the private sector in the modernisation of airports was its perceived threat to the country’s security. Yet in Kolkata, CITU, the Left trade union, is creating a security hazard by forcibly occupying a building, opposite the domestic terminal, which was meant for weatherman posted to the airport by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The five-room bungalow has become the office of the CITU union that controls contract workers. The security hazard has been highlighted by the IMD which filed a complaint with the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport police station. The police has taken the complaint (F/G00601-Quarter 390), dated December 16, 2004, as a general diary entry but has not taken any action.
The CITU broke into the bungalow when it was being used as a training centre for the IMD.
