Court refuses to vacate stay on pilgrimage subsidy

Lucknow: The top court in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh has refused to vacate its stay order on government granting subsidy to people making pilgrimages.
The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Sept. 7 did not change its earlier stand but fixed Sept. 18 for the final hearing on the matter. The court on Aug. 25 had passed an order restraining the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government from providing any financial subsidy for any pilgrimage by any community.
The centre’s application said the national carrier Air India has issued tender notices and invited bids to lease aircraft to enable it to transport some of the pilgrims.
