Mumbai International Airport attracts record traffic

Mumbai: Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) saw a record 21.5 lakh passengers walk through its portals in December 2006, which is a new record for passenger traffic at India's airports.
According to Mumbai International Airport Pvt Ltd (MIAL), domestic passengers made up 14.3 lakh of the overall numbers, while international passengers accounted for the balance 7.2 lakh.
Mumbai's previous high in passenger traffic was 19.3 lakh in May 2006, which was a further rise over 18 lakh passengers handled in December 2005.
For the nine-month period ending December 31, 2006, the total passenger traffic handled at Mumbai was 1.62 crore (1.08 crore domestic and 54 lakh international), which marks an increase of 22.36 per cent over 2005.
