Mumbai airport’s first big tech-initiative takes off in March

Mumbai:The Airport Operational Database (AODB), considered the enabler of airport integration, is ready to go live in the first week of March at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA). And this will be MIAL’s first major technological initiative.
The AODB software is being put on systems that will be housed in the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC), which will also be the new apron control centre, a premise equipped with facilities for regulating movement of aircraft and vehicles on the airfield. Currently at twin locations on the airfield, bringing the apron control centre into the terminal building will also free enough space on the tarmac to create four new parking bays.
“Everything is done manually right now and it takes about 10-15 minutes to bring the aircraft to the bay after touchdown. This will drastically reduce, since the system will allocate resources and improve efficiency,” said T P Anantheswaran, Head (Information Technology), MIAL. “The new system will distribute various airport resources —like gates, baggage carousels, counters, etc—among different stakeholders with every flight getting its due,” he added.
Various airport resources will be mapped onto a single database to streamline daily operations by integrating information from multiple application systems and providing a central storage for a wide range of airport data.
