New Delhi: The Bharti Group is looking at re-entering the airport modernisation business. The telecom major, which had earlier bid for upgradation of Mumbai and Delhi airports but had to withdraw when its consortium partner Changi blinked, is now in talks with prospective international partners to re-enter the space, it is learnt.
When asked about the issue, Bharti group chairman Sunil Mittal told ET: “Many (international) airports are chasing us. We have not made up our mind.” While admitting that several international airport operators had approached the Bharti group for a possible tie-up, another top company executive said:
“We understand the airport business well after having worked on the earlier bids. We are not ruling out the possibility of entering this sector again.”
The government is finalising the modalities for upgradation of two metro airports — Kolkata and Chennai — and 35 non-metro airports across the country.
