Toronto: The design for a memorial playground in Vancouver to commemorate the 329 victims of the Air India bombing has been approved by the local authorities.
The project, which was approved in principle last June, will not be completed in time for the 2007 memorial service marking the anniversary of the terrorist attack.
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation voted this week on the design, which will see the Ceperley children's playground rebuilt near Second Beach in Staneley Park. The names of all those who died in the June, 1985 bombing will be listed in a stone wall.
Board Communications Coordinator Terri Clark said the memorial should be completed by the end of July.
The federal and provincial governments have pledged to cover the USD 860,000 price tag of the memorial playground and monument.
