SSC equips Indian Coast Guard aircraft

The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) will equip three Dornier 228 maritime patrol aircraft with the SSC Maritime Surveillance System. The planes are operated by the Indian Coast Guard Aviation and are part of a fleet of 24 Dornier aircraft. The planes are produced by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL).
Indian Coast Guard is planning to enhance its surface and aerial surveillance capability for monitoring oil spills and other potentially illegal activities in the Exclusive Economic Zone, which currently extends over 2 million square kilometres. It is also responsible for protecting a coastline of 7500 kilometres including pollution prevention and search and rescue.
The SSC Maritime Surveillance System has been installed in a variety of aircraft in coun-tries all around the world, for example Sweden, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Greece, USA and Canada.
