Mumbai/ Ahmedabad: Airport Authority of India (AAI), Ahmedabad, plans to develop its unused excess land for commercial exploitation.
S D Awasthi, Airport Director, AAI, Ahmedabad, told Business Standard, "We will utilise 30 acres of land within the airport premises for commercial use and to generate revenue from it."
According to Awasthi, AAI recently came out with the list of 35 airports that fall under the scheme of city site allotment of non-metro airports that can put their excess land to commercial use. "Ahmedabad is on the top of the list of non-metro airports," adds Awasthi.
For Ahmedabad a preliminary study has been carried out by Ernst & Young (E&Y), a global technical advisor, which suggested to develop restaurants, hotel, motels, multiplex or any kind of eating joints as there is good business potential for eating joints in the vicinity of an airport. The project will be based on public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Ahmedabad's AAI has engaged a Hydrabad-based consultant S Capital Fortunes to prepare the format of the tenders for the said project. The tender for the project is expected by July.
