Amritsar: Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials today apprised Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of the lack of facilities at Rajasansi nternational Airport and the hindrances in way of its expansion and modernisation.
Badal directed the officials accompanying him, including Deputy Commissioner Kahan Singh Pannu, to work out modalities for acquiring about 45 acres of land for the airport.
Amritsar AAI Director Arun Talwar said this land was immediately required and they had written to the state government several times.
The CM promised him that the state government would provide land at the earliest, as it wants the airport to have all the features of an international airport.
Badal assured that he would take up the issue of upgrade of the airport with Ministries of Civil Aviation, Defence, Environment and Forests.
Earlier, during a meeting with party workers at Bhai Gurdas Hall, he announced that an 11-member committee would be formed to redress public grievances.
