Calibration team fails to make it

Visakhapatnam: Bad luck seems to continue to chase the city of destiny as the calibration aircraft which is supposed to reach the city on Thursday has gone back to Delhi for overhauling.
It is expected to reach the city on Tuesday (May 15). Sources said though everything including the ground staff were kept in readiness for carrying out the calibration of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) in the new runway here, in the last minute it was decided to fly back to Delhi directly from Kolkata for overhauling of the engine as the Dornier aircraft had completed its specific flying hours. As per DGCA rules, the aircraft have to strictly follow maintenance schedule including overhauling once they complete certain flying hours. This will vary depending upon the type of aircraft.
Meanwhile, Vizag airport controller C. Pattabhi has refuted Thursday's report that the navy had denied permission for the aircraft to carry out calibration during normal flight operations.
