New Delhi: There were four instances this year of arms being found in the luggage of air passengers, included the case of industrialist Nulsi Wadia who was detained at Dubai Airport in January.
In a reply during question hour, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Praful Patel informed the Lok Sabha that customs authorities in Dubai detected and confiscated a pistol and 30 bullets from the registered baggage of Wadia, who was travelling from Mumbai to the port city in the Gulf on an Air India flight.
In another case, a .32 revolver was found in the luggage of Varanasi-bound passenger S M Ashraf on a SpiceJet flight on March 22. He was handed over to Delhi Police, who registered a case against him under the Arms Act.
On may three, two instances of arms being carried into an aircraft were detected by security officials. The first one was that of a passenger -- Anil Parmmar -- travelling on a Jet Airways flight from Patna to Delhi.
The second instance was the detection of .22 rifle by security staff of SpiceJet in the courier bags of a Hyderabad- based company. The matter was reported to police and the courier agent was handed over to them, the minister said.
